Summer News

July 30, 2010

FacebookTwitter

Dear visitors, I hope you have been well!

I haven't had much time to write here, I have been quite busy (I know, we all are!). In the beginning of June, I managed to get quite badly ill after a fitness session. Nothing sport related, rather the effort triggered a dormant virus. It was bad enough to kick me down for a week (unable to walk, massive headaches, headspins) and I managed to achieve this just a few days before the planned term for my wife's pregnancy. Yes, I've been busy! I managed to get back on my feet around the 10th of june, just in time enough to recover and drive my wife to the maternity on the 12th of June. After 3 heroic hours of contractions, and an intense but quick birth process, our son Matteo was born on June, 12th at 23:00. We are of course terribly happy about this and Matteo is an absolutely fantastic baby boy!

Being parent is quite a full time job, and combining this full-time job with the nonetheless semi-full-time job of systems administrator you can imagine that the very few time left is spend either sleeping, going to work and back and having some meager distractions! But we are now finding our rythm and our baby too.

June and July have been interesting and intense at work too, with a repetition of the DL380 G6 ASR-triggered crash and other delicacies linked with HP Products (Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure 3.2).

Finally I've equipped myself with an old but reliable (and maxed out!) IBM xSeries 235 server with two Dual-Core Xeon 3.06 GHz CPUs. This will be the base of my lab (Windows 2008, ESXi Virtualization) until I add (hopefully soon) either an HP DL360 G4p or a Fujitsu Primergy TX100 S1.

I have started studying to prepare Microsoft Exam 70-640, my aim in the medium term is to reach MCTIP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) certification level but for now I will be focusing on Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS) Windows 2008: Active Directory, Configuring certification. Self-paced training kit is on its way, I will have enough to entertain myself during autumn and winter evenings!

I'm now watching Meet Joe Black with my wife and we are both enjoying a glass of wine, Bardolino Chiaretto for me and Jurançon for my significant other.

Wish you all a good evening and expect more posts soon 🙂
Max
