My expectations about Nutanix .NEXT in Vienna

November 3, 2016

FacebookTwitter

I will spend most of next week in Vienna, Austria to attend the European edition of the Nutanix .NEXT conference, held by hyper-convergence leader Nutanix. The event (which is already sold out) will take place at the Hilton Vienna (Am Stadtpark), with most of the agenda spreading over two days.

I am excited to discover what’s new with Asterix (the codename for Acropolis OS 5.0). I will make no mysteries that I am currently providing services to a corporation which has massively adopted Nutanix as one of their core technological platforms and this has enabled me to visit Nutanix HQ in May 2016, where I had the privilege to get an early review of Nutanix roadmap and innovations. I’m secretly hoping that most if not everything that I have seen will make it into Asterix. I am also interested to see what has happened with PernixData’s IP, namely FVP and Architect. These were great products, I wonder if Nutanix Engineering had the time to integrate these with Asterix or if it’s on the roadmap.

One of my earliest involvements with Nutanix was related with the security aspects of the platform and I must say that the most pleasing aspect with Nutanix is how security forms an integral and essential aspect of their technology thanks to their nSERT team. I hope that the more they move forward in AOS releases, the more the CVM will become a real “black box” appliance.

It’s tempting to think that the event will be solely centered on the Nutanix hyperconverged platform, but Nutanix .NEXT is not just about Nutanix. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Nutanix partners such as Dell EMC (hoping to see Dell XC’s and not VxRails), Rubrik and much more.

Nutanix had a successful IPO and now everyone is wondering whether they have more than on trick on their hat. Despite being humble as they claim to be, Nutanix has also been hungry, very hungry (which is a good thing even if sometimes some of their folks are borderline on twitter) and therefore I hope to hear about major announcements on the company strategy as well as their vision for the future.

And last but not least, I’m looking forward to meet community members & friends, new people and Nutanix colleagues & friends!

Disclosure

I was invited to Nutanix .NEXT by Nutanix. Nutanix is covering my admission fee and accomodation. I am covering any other costs including transportation from Prague to the event and back. I have absolutely no obligation to blog and do it solely to inform my readers about what’s happening with Nutanix.
